Artist's Comments

This is based on an old belief that fairies were once fallen angels. They didn't fit into Heaven or Hell so they made to live in between as fairies. I read it in Brian Froud and Alan Lee's "Faeries." I thought that that was and interesting concept and instant inspiration. Watercolor and watercolor pencil.

Do I want shelter from the rain?
Or the rain to wash me away....

Aww, this is so pretty! I really love the skin tones and all the depth in the shading, plus the hair is really nice too. Beautiful work!

Very very dynamic - the idea is so well-carried-out. It's more raw than most of your work too. I've never been much good with individual feathers; these look great. Love that electric blue, too.

...The transition from angel to faerie looks like it's pretty painfull!! This piece has alot of raw energy to it. I can almost feel the wings moving around. Nice work Becky!!:clap::clap:

Thank you! That pose was pretty challenging.

Thank you! I read the idea awhile ago, and I could picture how I wanted it to look. But I didn't feel like I could successfully carry it out until recently. It was one of those ideas I just kept in the back of my mind until I was ready for it. :)

Thank you! I imagine that it might be painful. The wings shifting form and feathers falling out all happening rather quickly. I'm glad that that comes across. This was an idea that I wanted to illustrate for awhile. I finally felt that I had the skills to pull it off.
